Saturday 9th January 2021
Genting Casino is closing its club in Southport, marking the fourth permanent closure for the company as a result of the Covid-19 pandemic
Almost 40 jobs are at risk after a casino chain announced the closure of one of its outlets on the Lancashire border.
Genting Casino has confirmed its Southport premises will be closing in what the companuy has described as a "simply unavoidable" measure due to the ongoing coronavirus pandemic.
The company is now in talks with 38 members of staff affected by the announcement.
So far, the pandemic had seen Genting Casino close three of its clubs in Bristol, Margate, and Torquay, with the Southport premises now the fourth to close its doors for good.
Speaking to Stand up for Southport, a Genting Casino spokesperson said: "As we all know, the coronavirus pandemic has created unprecedented challenges right across the leisure industry and whilst we have worked tirelessly over the past 10 months to sustain the business as best as possible, permanent club closures have, unfortunately, been simply unavoidable.
"To date we have had to close three of our casinos as a direct result of the pandemic and we are now proposing that Southport becomes the fourth.
"We know what difficult news this will be for all of our hard-working colleagues in Southport and will do everything we can to support them at this challenging time."
