Coronavirus: Torres-Martinez tribe last in Coachella Valley to close its casino

Wednesday 25th March 2020

The Torres-Martinez Desert Cahuilla Indians has closed its Red Earth Casino, making it the final tribe in Riverside and San Bernardino counties to shut the doors of its gaming facility.

Citing the coronavirus pandemic, the tribe's closure of the casino near Thermal went into effect Sunday. Tribe officials plan to reopen in two weeks.

It was not immediately clear whether casino staff would continue to receive pay and benefits during the closure, as other tribes have committed to providing.

A spokesperson for the tribe was not immediately available for comment.
