Hiring begins for Cascades Casino

Cascades Casino North Bay has started recruiting for a limited number of senior positions.

Rob Mitchell, director of communications and public affairs for Gateway Casinos, confirmed hiring is now underway for the North Bay gaming facility.

"We have started recruitment online for a limited number of senior positions at the new casino in North Bay," he said Monday.

"We expect to conduct larger job fairs in North Bay in the coming months."

Some of the jobs up for grabs include assistant casino general manager with a starting wage of between $64,000 and $79,000, chef de partie at $47,000 to $63,000, restaurant general manager at $47,000 to $62,000, chef at $51,000 to $68,000 and sous chef at $46,000 to $66,000.

These are only a few of the 300 jobs the casino is expected to generate.

Construction of the $31-million project is well underway. It's slated to be open by mid-July. However, Mitchell acknowledged winters in Northern Ontario can be unpredictable.

"We are optimistic we can hold to the dates previously announced."

The casino is located at 300 Pinewood Park Drive, located just south of Lakeshore Drive off Highway 11.

The 39,000-square-feet casino will feature 300 slot machines and eight live table games. The build will also include Match Eatery and Public House and The Buffet.

Gateway is one of the largest gaming and entertainment companies in the country, with 27 properties in B.C., Ontario and Edmonton.
