Preah Sihanouk provincial police on Monday sent a Chinese man to court for firing a gun and injuring another Chinese national using the butt of the weapon inside a casino in Sihanoukville's Ochheuteal Beach.
The suspect, a 38-year-old man, allegedly fired four shots in Yaduoli Casino on Sunday, deputy provincial police chief in charge of crime Kol Phally said.
While the shots injured no one, the suspect later used his gun to hit another Chinese man on the head, fracturing his skull. The case was sent to court on Monday morning.
"We already interrogated the suspect, but he refused to provide the motive for his actions. We are now sending him to court," said Phally.
An official from the Preah Sihanouk provincial police who asked not to be named said on Monday that special units from the provincial police worked alongside those from Sihanoukville to surround and arrest the suspect outside the casino.
"Our forces were standing by outside the casino to help Sihanoukville police forces. Upon detaining him, the provincial specialists took him to the provincial police station for further legal action," he said.
In a separate case, a man suffered injuries to his leg on Monday when he panicked upon hearing a gun being fired in Phnom Penh's Dangkor commune in Dangkor district.
The 43-year-old man panicked when he heard the gunshot and ran straight into a closed door, injuring his leg. The man who fired the gun has been identified by the police but has not been made public.
Dangkor district police chief Chim Sitha said the suspect was drunk when he fired the gun. The victim and the suspect had no prior interaction so a dispute between the men has been ruled out.
"We have already identified the offender - he is a neighbour who was partying. He was being very loud and then he pulled the gun out and fired one shot. The victim was so scared that he crashed into the door of his own house, suffering injuries to his right leg," Sitha said.
The suspect managed to escape, while the victim was sent to hospital.
