Scarlet Pearl Casino reopens with safety guidelines in place - WXXV 25

Friday 22nd May 2020

It's a day many have been waiting on: the reopening of some casinos throughout the Coast.

While gamblers are out to place their bets, the Scarlet Pearl Casino is taking no chances when it comes to the safety of its guests as well as its employees.

The Scarlet Pearl Casino Resort is among a few Coast casinos to reopen Thursday to the public. Scarlet Pearl CEO LuAnn Pappas said, "We've actually been pleasantly surprised. It's run very smooth. We've had a little bit of a line out front this morning, but we were able to expedite everyone quickly, but as you can see it is still going strong."

Scarlet Pearl employees are required to wear a mask, machines are monitored and wiped down after customers, and there are dividers separating guests. Casino Guest Brian Waystack said, "They put a lot of safety protocol into place. I was kind of concerned about coming up here, but they're checking our temperature at the door. They are cleaning the machines. If you get off the machine or go into a new one, they will clean it for you. The distance from machines is six feet. Nobody is really near you. They have partitions. I keep knocking into the partitions because they're clear and you don't know they're there, but it's protecting you from the person next to you. So, they've done a fabulous job here."

Pappas says now that the safety measures are in place and the doors are open again, she is excited to see the casino partially bustling again. "I have to tell you the only answer I can come out with is when you were little and you asked for something special at Christmas. I got my Christmas gift."

Though the casino is open, buffet operations are temporarily suspended until the casino feels it can deliver an experience that is both "safe and great" for visitors.
