The new Cahuilla Casino Hotel will open to guests May 27

Friday 15th May 2020

The new Cahuilla Casino Hotel, a $35.2 million casino and hotel intended to replace the original Cahuilla Casino in Anza, will open its doors to the public after having to push back its opening date by nearly two months due the novel coronavirus pandemic.

The Cahuilla Band of Indians announced via a news release Friday that it will open the new property -- which includes a 353-slot machine gaming floor, a 58-room hotel, an outdoor event space and restaurant -- to the public Wednesday, May 27, with some safety-related updates.

The news release says that all guests and team members will have their temperatures checked by no-contact thermometers before entering the property and will be required to wear face masks. Masks will be provided if needed and gloves can also be provided on request.

No more than 250 guests will be allowed on the gaming floor, and slot machines will be turned off and reconfigured with chairs to allow for physical separation between guests. There will be a limit of three players per table game.

The property's restaurant, the Ribbonwood Grill, will remove dining tables and chairs to allow for physical separation between guests. Although restaurants are closed for dine-in elsewhere in Riverside County due to the governor's stay-at-home-order, the state's regulatory laws generally do not apply because the tribal-owned casinos are on sovereign land.

The bar located just off the gaming floor will also have machines turned off and chairs removed.

The casino has applied an antimicrobial surface protectant on all touch points of the casino, hotel and gas station. Hotel rooms, the news release says, will be sanitized routinely with high heat.

"We are eager to unveil and share the new Cahuilla Casino Hotel with our guests, team members and the community and we stand by our commitment to protecting the health and safety of all," Tribal Chairman Daniel Salgado stated in the release. "Our focus during this time of closure has been on implementing protective measures and enhanced sanitary guidelines throughout the new property to ensure we are doing everything we can to protect our guests and team members. We plan to slowly phase into opening operations to ensure that we can allow for proper social distancing and will continue to evaluate all aspects of our operations."

Officials broke ground on the new casino hotel property, which will replace a tent-like structure that was in place for more than 24 years, in October 2018. Tough they had hoped for an April 2 opening the coronavirus pandemic prompted them to postpone.

Cahuilla Casino Hotel is the second tribally-owned casino property in Riverside County to officially announce an opening date, following Pechanga Resort Casino's announcement that they hoped to open June 1.
